Default Yahoo Messenger screws PC =(

Hi guys/girls!

I recently installed an executable file downloaded from the official Yahoo! Messenger site to my Desktop PC. I'm running a windows xp professional with service pack 2.

Before I've installed the Yahoo Messenger version 9 to my pc, I was using the YM version 8. Under the YM version 8, I was having problems logging-in unto my account. I always got logged out after a second of being logged in. So, I decided to have an update and tried the version 9 for YM.

After I was able to successfully installed ym ver 9, I still have the same log in problems I had with ym ver 8 AND my desktop pc reboots often on by itself. I tried to detect any spyware or malware threats using a daily update Zone Alarm anti virus/spyware firewall software, but it does not detect any threats. I also tried to remove/uninstall yahoo messenger ver 9 but whenever I try to do it, my pc reboots on itself again.

Oh what to do?

Welcome to DTR,

Try uninstalling YM in safe mode.

Also try one of these IM programs instead of YM(they are all-in-one IM clients...

As Kdawgca said, you could try a different IM application entirely from by Best Free Software for Windows list. I suggest you use Pidgin if you're going to do basic IMing but if you want extended functionality such as integration with your email and social sites then go for Digsby. Trillian and Miranda are fine too though.

I really only ever recommend Miranda if you want to go through the laborious task of skinning everything. If so, awesome, it'll probably work out great. The base install is pretty hideous, though.
