Best Desktop PC <$500
1) What is your budget?
<$500 (without tax)
2) Are there any brands/resellers that you prefer or any you really don't like?
Not really. But they have to be available in Canada.
3) What tasks will you be performing with the Desktop?
LIGHT (key word LIGHT) Gaming, Skype, everyday use (internet, word processing, photoshop occasionally etc).
4) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
Dungeon Fighter Online
5) Do you mind buying parts online without seeing them in person?
If there are positive customer reviews that support the product I do not need to see the parts in person.
6) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS X, Linux, etc.
Win 7
7) How much hard drive space is needed?
>500 GB
8) What size desktop would you like?(All in one, compact, large)
Not an all in one. Other than that no preference.
Probably mainstream or compact.
9) Does the case need to be stylish?
No.
10) What resolution will the screen run at? One or Two screens?
My monitor's screen res is 1680 x 1050
11) Do you need any particular hardware?(Ports, HDD slots, double DVD drives, etc.)
DVD drives: at least 1
USB's: 4 AT LEAST (2.0 or 3.0)
HDD: 1
Ethernet: 1
Of course, the usual microphone and headset ports, VGA, HDMI etc etc.
12) How would you rate your technical skills?
Not good at all.
13) Have you ever built a desktop before?
No, but a friend is helping
14) Do you need wireless connectivity?
I have ethernet, but I guess it can't hurt.
15) When are you going to be building this?
Late July - August
16) Have you considered a pre-built desktop? Or even a notebook?
No for notebooks. I have looked a pre-built ones too. Not sure what rout I should go for.
17) Are you going to overclock?
Trying my best not to?
It can be a list of what parts I'd need to build, or a pre-built one. I have no preference.
I've never built a desktop before so I'm still not sure as to what are all the parts I would need.
Thanks for any help.Last edited by birdbird; 07-14-2012 at 04:14 PM.

RE: Query on Desktop Purchase
Hi,
My name is Shomprakash and I'm a member of the Dell Social Media Team. Looking at your query, I can suggest a machine that is available in Canada.
It's a Dell Inspiron 660S. Starts at $429.99 online price (as on 31-07-2012, which should be alright since you plan on purchasing in late July/August)
The Canada Sales & Configuration link is present at:
The Dell Online Store: Build Your System
I hope this helps!
Let me know if you need further assistance with this, I'd be glad to help.
Kindest Regards,
