I found the jumper on my HDD and removed it.

Yeah, I got Seagate drives for my new array and had to do this 8 times. What a stupid jumper to put on.

One would have thought it would make more sense to set it as SATA-II by default???

Seagate did it to ensure that the drive would operate on motherboards without SATA II connectors. Pretty smart if you ask me, actually it's supposedly pretty easy to spot if you read the installation instruction attached to the top of the HDD.

I just noticed I got one of these HDDs.

Removing tomorrow :P
