Rivatuner, without a doubt. nTune is virtually useless with most desktop motherboards (not sure about notebooks though, but I'll assume it's no different)

http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=56017 Here's an excellent guide. You can skip the "power user" steps.

Edit: http://www.guru3d.com/article/article/449/ This guide is much better.

Edit 2: Don't mess around with the fan settings, just the clock speeds.

I think Powerstrip is the best overclocking software there is. It is so much easier than RivaTuner or nTune.

ah, thank you.. got confused with all that fan stuff ;p

im running an 8700m gt at 4880 3dmark score, my temp on this computer never goes above 60 C so i think this OCing might work somewhat?

Well, technically , laptop OCing is not safe. But at your temps, I guess you could push it a bit.
Riva Tuner seems easy enough, with those sliding bars. I used to OC the crap out of my old FX5200 and rivatnt2...but so far I`ve never OCed a laptop GPU,even though the max temp I saw was 59( after 4 h of crysis)

what kind of 3dmark score do u have? im hesitating now on doing this OC'ing ;\ people are scaring me out of it lol

couple mroe questions - prolly really stupid ones too

1. should i not have BOTH nTune and Rivatuner installed on my laptop at once?

2. i know this is a stupid question but, there IS a way to go back to default settings correct and eliminate the OC settings? and how would this be accomplished in something like rivatuner
