A-DATA is one of the world's top flash memory manufacturers, and they've been looking to get into the SSD market for some time. It's been plagued with delays, though, or selling rebrands of other OEM's high-performance drives, like Intel's. No more. With the introduction of the SSD S596, A-DATA is positioning themselves as an manufacturer of high-performance drives the equal of anyone else's.
While we'll have to wait and see how realistic they are, A-DATA is claiming sequential read speeds of 250MB/s and sequential write speeds of 180MB/s. In other words, not too shabby. A DDR2 RAM cache buffer is mentioned, but there are no details regarding size or speed.
The S596 will come in 64, 128 and 256GB capacities, though no prices have yet been released. One of the best features on the drives, though? Each comes equipped with a mini-USB port that lets you use them as a portable drive, or for easier backups and drive imaging.
