We've known for a while that manufacturers were going to be making the jump to 16:9 aspect ratio panels, and it looks like that day is finally come. Many of the new panels we've seen over the past couple of months have been slowly moving away from the unspoken industry standard 16:10 wide aspect ratio (with resolutions like 1680x1050, 1920x1200, etc). Today is no exception as Dell Canada's website is showing the new SP2309.
The SP2309 is a 23" LCD with the oddball QWXGA resolution of 2048x1152, which is essentially the 16:9 version of 1920x1200. A lot of people complained about "missing pixels" as companies began to shift away from the 16:10 panels and this new resolution seems to be the industry's response, what with two companies releasing similar monitors less than a week apart.
The SP2309 offers the following specifications:
- 23" QWXGA panel with 2048x1152 resolution
- HDMI, DVI-D and VGA video inputs
- Integrated 2.0MP webcam
- 160 degree viewing angles (horizontally and vertically)
- 2ms response time
- 300 cd/m2 brightness
- 1000:1 contrast ratio (dynamic)
- Displays 98% of the NTSC color gamut
- Wall-mountable
