    Default Upgrade

I was thinking of upgrading my graphics cards I currently have an MSI GTX580 Lightning and an Asus GTX560.

Would an upgrade to any of the following be a good idea or worth it?

I prefer MSI cards mainly the ones with the twin frozer design for better cooling

    1 x GTX 670 as a main, keep the 580 as physx/ back up cards and sell the 560 Price(400 - ~100)

    1 x 680 as a main same story Price(600 - ~100)

    2 x GTX 670 SLI and sell both current cards (800 - ~400)

    My other specs are

    i7 2600k @ 4.6ghz
    Asus P8P67 Workstation Revolution
    1KW Kingwin Lazer PSU
OCZ solid 3 120 gb SSD
    2x WD: CB 1 Tb (Raid 0)
    16 GB G.skill Sniper 1866Mhz RAM

What are you doing that your present setup cant handle?

Personally I'd look to score a used, or deep discounted 580 on the cheap and go SLI, and wait another gen or two for something truely new and unique to come out...ie cards that really change your game and not just bump up your FPS a little. There isnt much 2x580's cant handle right now, they wont top the charts but they will get the job done.

I do understand the desire to upgrade though...I've thought of it myself...but I really dont have any real reason to right now....1080P with most all eye candy cranked and steady FPS above 90 ( 120hz screen) and I'm golden...I doubt I'll even nibble at the 6xx refresh line...probably wait till the chip after.

Thanks for the reply and I know what you mean but the new aa allowance plus being able to run all of my screens off one card would be nice the power consuption and cooling also help a lot and I also just want to get rid of my POS 560 as I've had to rma it 3 times anfd it hasn't even been a year but I'd like a back up for the 580 if it goes out I might check into a second 580 though

How many screens are you running and how do you use them? I game on my 120HZ asus only, and run my secondary display into the GTX 260 so I can activly monitor FPS and resource usage in game in real time (it also allows my 570's to reach thier lowest idle state).

Gaming across multiple screens pulls me out of the game, even with ulta slim transparant bezel screens...I focus more on the seams then the screens. With my setup I trun off my secondary display when I'm done tuning a game so its not a distraction.

I still think for the money involved, getting a second 580 is the most practical choice, short of that, wait till the 6XX refresh hits and watch hardware forum B/S/T threads like a hawk to get a steal on a 680 or two.

One thing I learned going from one card to two in SLI (at least in the case of my 570's), plugging all your screens in to the SLI setup will cause the other screens to blank out during gaming no matter what I tried (and it would move all my icons and open windows on the secondary to the primary)....never could figure out exactly why as with a single card that never happend...its kinda like running two displays off one card prevents the lowest idle state.....regardless running the secondary display via the 260 solved everything for me.

O I didnt know that I think maybe getting the 670 would be the best option for me then as its the cheapest and I can run all three of my primaries on one card and I gcan get rid of my 560 before its warrenty is up
