CPU Cooling - NH-D14, or?
Hi Guys,
I am trying to find a CPU cooler for my desktop PC.
What I have is:
Define R3
Asus P8Z68 Deluxe 3
Seasonic X-660
i7-2600K
8GB Corsair Vengeance
2TB HDD
60GB SSD
Radeon 6870
2x NH-S12B ULN running at low speed and 1x stock fan at he back to be replaced by S12B.
I currently have the Schuriken Scythe that was used because the PC was first mounted in an HTPC case. I find the CPU cooler to be too loud for my liking and I am looking for a quieter and if possible, more efficient solution.
I have looked at several reviews and the Noctua NH-D14 seems to get very good reviews. It is efficient and quiet. I should have enough space in my case to mount it too. I also thought about replacing the P12 fan that comes with D14 and putting an S12B with ULN adapter so it only runs at 500rpms and makes it even more quiet.
My question is:
Is there anything else out there that will be better than the Noctua?
Price does not matter.
P.S. I have looked at Titan Fenrir and Gelid Tranquillo, but they seem inferior?
TIA,

If price isnt an issue and noise is, I might look into one of the several self contained water cooled units.

I'm not talking about a complicated rig, the self contained setups seem to be working quite well for most....not much more trouble than installing a regular HSF.
Corsair Hydro Series CPU Coolers
From what I understand you dont even fill it....its all put together and you just strap it on and place the radiator like a case fan....simpl,effective, and very quiet.Corsair Obsidian D ~Silverstone ST-1000-P~ i7 950 @ 4.2 GHZ/1.26V (EOC)~GA X58A-UD3R~ 2X EVGA GTX 570 SC in SLI~6GB G Skill super PI DDR3 1600 CAS 7~128 GB Samsung 830 SSD/ 1TB WD 7200 RPM 64MB cache~ Samsung Blue ray / DVDRW ~ EVGA GTX 260 - Core 216 SC for physX ~ Asus 1080P 120HZ LCD/NV 3D vision ~ Acer AL2216W 22" secondary display~ XFI TI
