Help me decide please...

Hello Guys I am thinking about upgrading my CPU and MOBO. I currently have this set up:

MOBO: Asus Rampage III Extreme
CPU: I7 930 @2.8Ghz
Ram: Corsair 12GB
GPU: Evga 480 GTX SLI x2.


I am looking to upgrade to:

MOBO: Asus Maximus Extreme-z
CPU: I7 2600k.

what do you guys think? I want to upgrade now so when the new IVY bridge come out I can get the new CPU and use the 2600K as a back up PC. Or Should i just get a i7 980x and use the rampage III extreme Board?

What are you trying to accomplish? What's not fast enough on your machine? Because with that CPU, there shouldn't be any real performance implications with games.

If you want Ivy Bridge, wait until it comes out and get the chip and the motherboard, don't waste your time with a Sandy Bridge chip in the meantime.

If I am not mistaken, I heard the New IVY bridge and the sandy bridge use the same socket?.. Because I was given a I2600k, but i new a motherboard to use it. so i thought to myself I will make a completely upgrade.

Ahh, yes. Some of them will be using the same socket. Honestly, if you have a 2600K you don't need Ivy Bridge. There won't be any upgrade... no more cores, maybe a 5-10% speed boost, and slightly lower power usage.

I know my Asus P8P67 claims compatibility with the Ivy Bridge chips. What I'd do if I were you is find a Z68 or P67 motherboard with PCIe3.0 compatibility and the features you want, and then just verify that it's Ivy Bridge compatible. Most of them should be. But I'd put your money into an SSD or better GPU instead of the CPU. Very, very few people are CPU limited with a Sandy Bridge system.

Hello Pitabred.. Thanks for the advices. But I just sold my i7 2600K and my I7 930 kits.. I got the new i7 3960x from eBay, Brand new for 900. And I also got the RIVE.. I think I am going to stick to this new build for a while.
