How do i tell if my computer has a sata card?
Ive been looking all over the net trying to figure this out, i have 4 black connecters for sata cables to plug into. Im not sure if i have sata because when i go to My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, it reads 3 different things. It says Intel(R) 82801g (ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 27DF, Intel(R) 82801GR SATA AHCI Controller, and Primary IDE Channel. Can someone help me out?

Isnt it a bit obvious? If it has SATA ports then it has to have a SATA controller right?

This just verifyes it.
Just make shure you got SATA drivers if your on XP.

Are you using SP2 or SP3? If you do, then you have them. |

Do you have service pack 2 (sp2) or 3 (sp3)? If you do, you should have the drivers. Did you buy the computer pre-built? If so, how long ago?
Chances are you do have SATA drivers already installed unless your computer is super old. |

SATA Drive
Physically: The drive will most likely have a red cable about 1 inch wide. Parallel drives have a grey cable that is about two inches wide.
SP2 or SP3: Right click on My Computer icon (or My Computer when you click on Start). Click on Properties. The pop up window will tell you about your Operating System. While you are there, click on the Hardware tab and System Information. Click the + sign next to Drives (not sure on that -- I am on a MAC right now and can't check it). It will say SATA if it is a Serial drive.

i have sp3, sorry lol that i didnt know what that meant. But i got the computer 2 years ago, and it was pre built, just ordered it from dell. Its a dimension 9150 desktop.

and also, my sata cable is blue and its plugged into 1 of the 4 sata ports, and coming out of that, it is plugged into my hard drive

colour doesnt mean anything. Normally their red but theres other colors too.
And, as it seems like its working, you must have SATA drivers.
