Will this build be good for a gaming desktop?
Hi. I have been using my Sony PCV-rs20 for almost 10 years now and I can't seem to run much on it anymore. I want to upgrade my computer so I put together some components on newegg and I would like to ask you guys some simple questions.
1. Are these parts good choices?
2. Most importantly, will the pieces work with each other or not?
My budget is less than $950
This build's total price came out to be "$890" not including shipping+tax

Looks great.
BTW, Antec 300 has been replaced by the Antec One. (In other words, Antec 300 is an out of date model (probably discontinued))
If you have a microcenter near you, you can potentially save $100. Microcenter almost always has jaw dropping i5 + mobo combo deals.
You are missing the OS.

Hmm will using a out of date model case have any downsides?
And you're right! Intel core i5-2500k is only $170 bucks at microcenter!!
Micro Center - Intel Core i5 2500K LGA 1155 Boxed Processor 179648
Why is it soo cheap? It's the same brand new genuine product right?

Oh and one more important question. Is there a real big difference between these two processors?
Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I53570K
Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 BX80623I52500K
The i5-3570k processor seems a bit better, if it is, will my motherboard support it?
Thanks

Microcenter is a brick and mortar store. And alot of the times, their deals are in-store only (so you have to drive their). I'm not sure why their so cheap - but, for sure, they are legitimate.
My guess, is that they are trying to gain market share. Because online retailers such as amazon and newegg are destroying brick and mortar sales: They might be selling at negative profit to pull some customers back. Also, many customers who go their to purchase the cpu and mobo combo, will likely also purchase other computer parts, such as ram, hdd, etc.
Make sure to check their mobo's too. Some of them will have a foot note saying its like $30 off if purchased along with the i5-3570 processor or something.
If you get ivy, you want a z77 motherboard. Theoretically z68 will support it with some updateing (not sure how your supposed to do that). But its better not to risk it.
General Benchmarks: Ivy v. Sandy
i5-3570 versus i5-2500
~ 8% Better performance
~ 0.1 Ghz less overclock potential
Better integrated graphics equivalent to about ~$25 discrete gpu
Runs hotter
~10% less power consumption in idle. ~0.5% less power consumption under load.
Re: Antec 300 v Antec One
One is cheaper on amazon.
One is slightly bigger (wider) but lighter.
One has USB 3.0 ports instead of USB 2.0
One has all black metal on inside. (so prettier)
One has much better cable management.
One uses a "clip in" system for hard drives and stuff.
All in all, I'd say One is slightly better and is newer. But 300 is by no means an inferior product.Last edited by SpicySnow; 06-17-2012 at 08:36 PM.

If I change my motherboard to this:
Newegg.com - ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
I will be all set for anything to come and it will work with all my hardware listed right?
Sorry about all the questions lol
