First time building a gaming pc
I want to build a gaming pc that I can hook up through HDMI to my Panasonic 55" Plasma TV TC-P55GT30. Googling around, I found this (link). I would only need the core system, which comes to about $1500. Is that a good setup? Any recommended changes? Could I get away with something cheaper?

What do you mean by a core system?
You can build a good gaming system for around $800-$1200.
IF you wish, you can take a look at my gaming computer guide. I made it recently, and I haven't really gotten much feedback on it.

Oh right. In my slang, a computer = what you described as a "core system". I consider that stuff to be peripherals.
And more importantly: What link. I don't see any link posted.

That system looks very good.
For the most part, I would actually make the same recommendations.
However:
Soundcard is unnecessary.
You won't be able to tell the difference between integrated sound and aftermarket sound unless 1. you have really good ears. and 2. you purchase a really good speaker system ($250+)
That system packages a blue-ray player. You can potentially save $80. Depending on if you want bluray or not.
That PSU they have listed is very good, but the price is kinda high. I bought that same exact psu from amazon.com for $70.
OH and I forgot something. Check microcenter for cpu+mobo deals. You might save $200
And one more thing:
The 670 gpu that comes with that system is VERY high end. As in, it's in the top 3 single core video cards. And its very close in performance to the best.
If you don't need insane graphics, you can downgrade significantly. (how much depends on what your target performance and game is)Last edited by SpicySnow; 06-17-2012 at 08:06 PM.
