Default Should we wait for Core i7?

Sorry if this has been discussed many times,
I'm a newbie in building desktop. Last one I build was the Pentium II era

I am planning to build one for myself this November 08 for my CAD and 3D purpose but after reading some articles in the internet, the new Intel Core i7 is coming out and it seems it will change a lot of other parts also, ex: motherboard.

So my questions are:
1. How long before this new processor become available?
2. If I build my desktop on Nov 08, will it be better off for me to wait for this new processor? Since I'm afraid what I build won't be upgradable at all after this new processor comes out.

Any suggestion is welcome

it should be upgradeable, you would just need a new mobo surely?

The new core i7 processors won't be backwards compatible with current motherboards because they use a different socket (LG 1366 vs LG 775). If you want to upgrade to core i7 at a later date then you'll need a new processor and a new motherboard.

You could go with a inexpensive mobo and low level duo but you're going to have to replace it too.

As always with technology, there is something better on the horizon. If you need a computer in November, buy it then. i7 won't offer astronomically better performance than the current chips so you'll be totally fine with getting a decent mobo/CPU now; It'll last you for many years.

This is pretty much the case. Core i7's die shrink will happen late next year so does that mean you should hold off and buy it then? No, that's silly, buy it when you need it.

Thanks, guys.

I just hate to see myself spending money on something when a better one comes out not long after that.
So this Core i7 is not going to be available by Q4 of 2008?
Why I read it differently on Intel roadmap in Wikipedia?

there will always be something better coming out. it's technology. i mean as soon as you buy a computer that carries the i7..there will always be another processor made..and so on and so forth.
if you need it now..get it now.
what are the specs you were lookin at?

I was going to buy a Quadro FX3700 (used) for my next desktop to run CAD 2009 3d, Revit Arch, Photoshop CS3 Ext, Sketch Up until somebody on CAD forum told me that it will be a waste of money to buy that FX3700 unless I need real time rendering a lot. He suggested to get a faster processor (Core i7 which is coming up) and bigger RAM instead.
Another suggestion is to use ATI 4870 X2 which would be sufficient.
So is that a good direction to build my desktop for what I need?

Not all of those programs are optimized to take advantage of the GPU so they'll benefit from a good CPU and lots of RAM. The 4870 X2 would be more than sufficient for whatever you have to throw at it. And there are many very fast processors out now, why wait for i7?
